Commencement Weekend
May 13 - 15, 2016

Faculty Information

Commencement Events

Faculty presence at the commencement ceremony and departmental ceremonies is expected and appreciated by the graduates and their families. Visit the Schedule page to learn more about the commencement ceremony and diploma ceremonies.

Faculty may wear the academic apparel from your alma mater or rent complimentary apparel through Duke. An apparel order form will be available in early February 2016.

Processional Instructions

Faculty and administrators participating in the academic procession of the commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 15, should assemble in the Yoh Building no later than 9 a.m. There will be signs for the faculties of Arts and Sciences, the professional schools, and the academic administration. The faculty will march in a double column with one Faculty Marshal leading each school. When the candidates for degrees have taken their places, the faculty will march onto the field and then to seats on either side of the platform.

Traditionally, women wear academic caps at all times, and men remove their caps during the National Anthem and opening invocation and replace them for the conferring of degrees.
