Student speaker nominations

Duke University is accepting nominations for the 2026 University Commencement student welcome speakers. As has been the case since 2023, one undergraduate student and one graduate or professional student will be selected to deliver brief welcome remarks on behalf of their fellow graduates during Duke’s formal commencement ceremony.

All members of the Duke community are encouraged to nominate a graduating student for this opportunity. Details regarding eligibility, the selection process, and the timeline can be found on the nomination form. Submissions will be accepted until Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

A team of reviewers will narrow the pool to 10 finalists, five graduate or professional and five undergraduate students. Finalists will be asked to submit a brief video speaking sample.

The selection committee will include representatives from the undergraduate and graduate/professional education communities, undergraduate and graduate/professional student governments, and Student Affairs. The committee looks forward to reviewing this year’s nominations and celebrating our Blue Devil graduates on May 10th.
